What is Eve Ascension?

Eve Ascension is a game-agnostic tournament series created by Team Liquid and presented by Alienware. The aim of the series is to highlight the talent of women and gender minorities across multiple game titles. Every player invited to compete in an Eve Ascension tournament is a gender minority, and Team Liquid is dedicated to ensuring that at least 80% of on-air talent and behind-the-scenes staff involved in all Eve Ascension events are also gender minorities.

Women and gender minorities are sorely underrepresented in competitive gaming spaces, despite accounting for an estimated 41 to 45% of all gamers. Team Liquid has long worked to ensure that gender minorities see themselves reflected both in on-air talent and in the competitive playerbase; the Team Liquid Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, Accessibility, and Justice Task Force creates opportunities, programs, and initiatives (including Liquid Women in Warcraft) as a means to provide underrepresented gamers with safer communities and better representation in professional gaming spaces. Eve Ascension is another such program, designed to showcase the talent and skills of women and gender minorities playing and competing in various games. The first Eve Ascension Mythic+ Tournament was not only a blast to watch, but also generated an incredible discussion in many gaming spaces about the treatment and inclusion of gender minorities in competitive Warcraft. Now the tournament is back again, and better than ever! With today’s announcement of the second official Eve Ascension Mythic+ Tournament, we’re sure to see some incredible new teams emerge to take on the Dragonflight Season 2 dungeons!

Event Format & Registration

Eve Ascension is a two-part Mythic+ competition consisting of a two week qualifier period, followed by a LIVE Championship event in which the top four teams will compete to win a prize pool of over $8,000!

The Qualifiers will take place on LIVE World of Warcraft servers on the following dates for each region, based on regional server resets:

Americas & Oceania: August 29th - September 12th
Europe: August 30th - September 13th
Korea/Taiwan: August 31st - September 14th

To enter, players must register their teams with Raider.IO Mythic+ Teams system, after which point Team Captains can sign up for the Eve Ascension Qualifiers. Each team must consist of five players; be aware that changing players during the Qualifier period is allowed, but you will lose any Rating your team has earned with its previous roster. Team registration is open TODAY, and will close with the last day of qualifiers, September 14th at 11:59pm PDT.

Over the qualifier period, teams will compete to earn as much Mythic+ Rating as possible. The top four teams on the official Eve Ascension leaderboards will be invited to attend the live Mythic+ Championship on Saturday, September 30th, 2023.

The Championship event, a one-day live broadcast, will take place on Blizzard’s Tournament Realms using the standard dungeon-climbing format popularized by The Great Push tournament. Teams will have 6 hours to complete the highest keystone dungeons possible, with dungeon affixes and starting keystone levels set by Tournament organizers; dungeon information will not be provided to teams until 30 minutes prior to the start of gameplay. Gameplay officially starts at 9:30am PDT, and teams will have until 3:30pm PDT to begin their final key. Scoring is based on the keystone levels completed across each dungeon.

The teams will be competing for $8,000 in prize money, but there’s more! In addition to the standard prize pool, the teams will also have the opportunity to win up to five $100 bounties for completing extra challenges during their timed runs!

Liquid Women in Warcraft

Following its acquisition of Liquid Guild in 2022, Team Liquid officially entered the World of Warcraft space and created its Liquid MMO branch. However, it quickly became evident to Team Liquid leadership that representation of and respect for gender minorities in the high-level, competitive WoW scene was disappointingly low. Because Team Liquid has dedicated itself to being a leader in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, Accessibility, and Justice in the gaming industry, leadership jumped at the chance to tackle the gender disparity in WoW, and Liquid Women in Warcraft (LWiW) was created.

LWiW’s mission is to provide a network through which women, non-binary persons, and those belonging to all gender minorities can seek a safe, supportive space with other like-minded people. The collaborative initiative works to connect gender minorities from all aspects of World of Warcraft gameplay with experts and professionals in the field. LWiW strives to empower, encourage, educate, and elevate gender minorities to the same positions of authority, respect, and visibility as their male counterparts.

LWiW has established a clear pathway towards achieving its goals by providing workshops, seminars, roundtable discussions, mentorships, and more. To learn about LWiW and its goals, please visit the LWiW Discord. Players registering for Eve Ascension must be members of the LWiW community, and LWiW will offer an LFG Matchmaking channel if you need a team, so ensure you’re in the Discord if you’re interested in competing!

If you’re excited as we are about this upcoming Eve Ascension Tournament, keep up with the LWiW Discord, watch the Liquid Guild and Raider.IO Twitter accounts, and tune into the Team Liquid Twitch Channel at 9am PDT on Saturday, September 30th!
